Lead Pastor: The Rev. Dr. Larry Thorson
In March of 2019 it was my privilege to become the lead pastor at MPC. I was born and raised in nearby San Jose, California as it was evolving into the center of the Silicon Valley. Today my wife Martha and I live in the very house I grew up in.
Christ became real to me in high school where I dedicated my life to Him. That desire to serve Christ took me to Liberty University where I earned a BS, Fuller Theological Seminary for an MA, Union Presbyterian Seminary for a Master of Divinity and Columbia Theological Seminary for a Doctor of Ministry.
I have served Presbyterian churches in Virginia (Danville & Arlington), Texas (Plano), southern California (Chino Hills & Hemet) and the San Francisco Bay Area (Irvington, Fremont) including doing a new start up church. I’ve also been a real estate broker helping new churches locate adequate worship facilities.
Martha, was born a day before me and raised a Baptist on a cattle farm in Virginia. We met at the Rivermont Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, Virginia while attending rival colleges. In 2018 we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and we have two married children, a grandson and granddaughter. Martha is also an ordained Presbyterian minister but presently works as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with an office in Los Altos near Stanford University.
Together we enjoy bike riding, hiking, taking daily walks with our Australian Shepherd/Border collie mix, watching mystery movies and being with our children.
My favorite food besides my wife’s excellent cooking is a burger and fries at any Shake Shack. I have a very eclectic taste in music led by jazz, r&b, praise and classical at various times throughout everyday. I read God’s Word daily and enjoy God’s presence in it.
My life goal is to be able to use what I've been given to help anyone I encounter in their walk with God and to enjoy God’s presence in them. It is always a privilege to serve God and God’s beautiful creation.
