Music Director: Emelie S. Diaz

A native of the Philippines (born and raised in the city of Olongapo on the island of Luzon)  in the Philippines, I had the privilege of attending and graduating from Saint Scholasticas College in Manila, Philippines with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a minor in piano, voice, and choral conducting.

After graduating from college, I taught classroom and choral music for two years, joined a music theater, and gave private piano instructions.  It was in 1982 that I found my true calling in liturgical music and also met my husband.

In 1984, we immigrated to the United States and settled in Oakland California.  There I went back to school to pursue a Master’s Degree in Music Theory at the Music and Arts Institute, San Francisco, California.  I also worked part time as a piano instructor at the Yamaha Music School in Oakland as well as a music director for Sacred Heart Church and accompanist at Praise Fellowship Christian Church in Oakland.

In 1989, my husband and I decided to raise our growing family in a more quiet and smaller community which we found in Manteca. We were some of the earliest so-called Bay Area transplants in Manteca. We joined the music ministry of Saint Anthony’s Church in Manteca where I eventually became a choir director and by God’s grace, the liturgical music director. Simultaneously, I went back to school again for my single subject teaching credential and taught in the public school system for 12 years.

I retired from both classroom music teaching and as liturgical music director in 2016.  We’ve traveled to religious and historical places in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa whenever feasible (24 countries and counting).

I am a baptized and practicing Roman Catholic, even having attended Catholic schools from elementary thru college.  I am currently taking classes to rejuvenate my Catholic faith and deepen my understanding of the Bible as well as the history of the church and other denominations in broad strokes.

At MPC I try to glorify God by recruiting and leading the choir as well as the praise team and help select the music for worship on Sundays.  You are encouraged and welcome to join our choir any Thursday night at 7:30 and glorify God with the talent has give you.
