Commissioned Ruling Elder - Campus Pastor: Sharon Miller
I’m Sharon Miller, currently a Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE) and campus pastor at Manteca Presbyterian Church (MPC). My husband, Greg Miller is an optometrist in Manteca. We were the first to be involved with Stockton Presbytery when they desired to launch a new church in Manteca where there had not been a Presbyterian church before. We became charter members of MPC when it first chartered as a church on Jan. 3, 1993. This became the church we had the privilege of raising our three daughters in who are all now living in Seattle.
Originally from Carson City, Nevada, I graduated from the University of Nevada-Reno with a BA in Social Services. I worked for two and half years as a Social Worker at a rehabilitation center in Sparks, NV then I moved to Berkeley, CA to attend a graduate school called New College Berkeley. This school was developed by Christians leaders in the East Bay as a school for laity to be educated to be better leaders in their churches. While it was not a formal seminary, it did offer three Master’s degrees as well as a Certificate in Missions. I attended with the purpose of getting the certificate but as I love attending school I stayed to finish a Master’s in Christian Studies along with the Certificate in Missions. My intent was to find a mission agency and become a missionary. However, I was introduced to my future husband by a classmate and ended up in Manteca.
I recently graduated from the Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE) program offered through San Francisco Presbytery and was commissioned to serve through Stockton Presbytery in Sept. of 2020. In addition, I’ve always been involved with the organization Presbyterian Women (PW) since we began a group in our new church in the office of Treasurer for the Presbytery PW. I am now the Moderator of Stockton PW which I’ve been for several years.
